Madrid overpowers Martensdale-St. Mary’s

The Madrid Tigers put together a commanding performance on Friday, October 10, rolling past Martensdale-St. Mary’s 54-20 in a district matchup at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Stadium.

The Madrid Tigers put together a commanding performance on Friday, October 10, rolling past Martensdale-St. Mary’s 54-20 in a district matchup at Martensdale-St. Mary’s Stadium. 

Madrid started strong, scoring in every quarter and pulling away late with 21 points in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers led 6-0 after the first, added 13 in the second, and poured on 14 more in the third before sealing the win with a fourth-quarter surge.  

Martensdale-St. Mary’s managed 13 points in the third and 7 in the fourth but couldn’t keep pace with Madrid’s explosive offense. 

Quarterback Chase Perkins led the charge, going 7-for-10 for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns. 

He also rushed for 116 yards and 2 touchdowns on 11 carries.  

Easton Halverson added 121 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns on 13 carries. 

Kinnick Grimm broke loose for 76 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 3 carries. 

Through the air, Jevyn Severson hauled in 6 receptions for 89 yards. 

Emerson Bridgewater had 2 catches for 80 yards and a touchdown, and Jacob Farrell added a 31-yard touchdown reception. 

For the defense, Severson had 6.5 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack and Halverson had 5.5 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 sack. 

Brady Springer and Terrin Lawrenson each had 4.5 tackles, with Lawrenson adding 2.5 tackles for loss. 

Jake Sawyer and Grimm each recorded an interception. 

With the win, Madrid improves to 4-3 overall and 4-1 in district play.  

Martensdale-St. Mary’s falls to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the district. 

Madrid returns home for Senior Night on Friday, October 17, hosting Colfax-Mingo (0-7 overall, 0-5 district). 

 Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
