Madrid girls finish third at conference meet

The Madrid girls finished third and the boys placed fifth Thursday, October 16, at the West Central Conference meet held at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center.

The Madrid girls finished third and the boys placed fifth Thursday, October 16, at the West Central Conference meet held at Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center. 

Led by a trio of top-6 finishes, the Madrid girls placed third with 84 points, trailing Des Moines Christian, who won the meet with 34. 

Katelyn Brandhorst led the Tigers with a 4th-place finish in 19:52.32 

Madelyn Grothus followed in 5th at 20:08.70, and Hannah Brandhorst rounded out the top trio in 6th with 20:15.44. 

Adelyn White ran in 23:40.86, Ari Mundy finished in 23:58.70, Makayla Mullenbach ran in 24:33.40 and Ella Hutchenson finished in 25:08.63. 

The Madrid boys team finished 6th with 154 points, led by freshman Hudson White, who placed 14th in 18:19.44. 

Cavin Pehl finished 18th in 18:37.02, and Kris Petersen placed 24th in 18:58.69 

Aiden Titus ran in 21:25.20 and Cole Berberich finished n 22:29.08 

Blane Schneider and Landen Schneider ran in 22:39.82 and 23:43.30, respectively. 

Des Moines Christian also won the boys’ meet with 26 points.

Madrid will compete in the Class 1A State Qualifying Meet on Thursday, October 23 at Jewell Golf and Country Club.  

Teams at the meet include Alta-Aurelia, Ankeny Christian, Arcadia-Westside-Vail, Baxter, Beamon-Conrad-Liscomb/Union-Whitten, Colfax-Mingo, Colo-Nesco, East Marshall, Green Mountain-Garwin, Madrid, Manson-Northwest Webster, Melcher-Dallas, Meskwaki Settlement, North Butler, Panorama, South Hamilton, Southeast Warren and Fort Dodge St. Edmond.
