The Madrid Tigers celebrated Senior Night with a commanding 59-0 victory over Colfax-Mingo in their final district and regular season football game Friday, October 17, at Madrid High School.
Madrid wasted no time asserting control, with quarterback Loken Velky leading the charge.
Velky was efficient through the air, completing 5 of 6 passes for 56 yards, and added 70 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Chase Perkins also contributed a 15-yard touchdown pass, and chipped in with 22 rushing yards and a score.
Easton Halverson exploded for 98 yards on 6 carries, including a touchdown.
Kolbie Owens found the end zone twice, racking up 32 yards on 3 carries.
Will Atkinson added 31 yards and a touchdown on 4 carries.
In the air, Emerson Bridgewater caught 2 passes for 22 yards and a touchdown, while Jevyn Severson hauled in 3 receptions for 36 yards, keeping the chains moving.
For the defense, Halverson led with 5.5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss.
Jacob Farrell added 4.5 tackles, and Terrin Lawrenson was a force with 4 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and half a sack.
Sander Nelson contributed 3.5 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Kinnick Grimm and Olan Higgins each recovered a fumble, while Grimm and Brady Springer snagged interceptions to shut down Colfax-Mingo’s offense.
With the win, Madrid finishes the regular season 5-3 overall and 5-1 in district play, securing a spot in the Class A playoffs.
The Tigers will host North Butler (4-4) in the first round on Friday, October 24 at Madrid High School.
