The Madrid girls’ cross country team had a strong showing at the Class 1A State Meet held Saturday, November 1, at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course north of Fort Dodge, placing 5th overall with 155 points.
Katelyn Brandhorst led the Tigers with a 9th-place finish, clocking in at 19:21.4.
Close behind was Madelyn Grothus, who placed 10th in 19:24.2, followed by Hannah Brandhorst in 12th with a time of 19:35.0.
Rounding out the scoring for Madrid were Adelyn White (22:08.0) and Makayla Mullenbach (23:28.6).
Ari Mundy (23:35.8) and Ella Hutchinson (24:09.3) also competed.
South Winneshiek claimed the team title with 125 points, edging out the competition in a tightly contested race.
Madrid’s fifth-place finish at state was the culmination of a dominant season.
The Tigers won the Southeast Valley Invite, the Madrid Invitational, and their State Qualifying Meet.
