In a tough Class A second-round playoff matchup, the Madrid Tigers saw their football season come to an end with a 21-0 loss to No. 6-ranked Woodbury Central at Woodbury Central High School Friday, October 31.
In the second quarter, Madrid’s defense came up with an interception, but a fumble in the end zone allowed Woodbury Central to recover for a touchdown with just 51.8 seconds left in the half, giving the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.
Woodbury Central added to their lead in the third quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run with 11.9 seconds remaining, and sealed the win in the fourth quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run following a nearly seven-minute drive, making it 21-0 with 1:05 left in the game.
Madrid managed to cross into Woodbury Central territory three times but couldn’t convert those opportunities into points.
Loken Velky led the offense, completing 10 of 18 passes for 131 yards and rushing 19 times for 81 yards.
Easton Halverson added 39 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Emerson Bridgewater caught 3 passes for 53 yards, while Jevyn Severson had 5 receptions for 47 yards.
On defense, Terrin Lawrenson led with 11.5 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks.
Severson contributed 8 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks.
Bridgewater added 6 tackles and 1 tackle for loss.
Kinnick Grimm and Logan Bogardus each recorded an interception.
Woodbury Central improved to 10-0 and will advance to face Marcus Meriden Cleghorn-Remsen-Union on Friday, November 7.

Madrid finished the season 6-4 overall and 5-1 in district play, placing second.
Loken Velky had a standout season with 888 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns on 97 carries, and threw for 673 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Chase Perkins completed 16 of 31 passes for 237 yards and 3 touchdowns, and rushed for 338 yards and 6 touchdowns on 46 carries.
Kolby Owens went 5 for 9 passing for 95 yards and 1 touchdown.
Will Atkinson rushed for 483 yards and 6 touchdowns on 81 carries, and had 42.5 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.
Easton Halverson rushed for 642 yards and 6 touchdowns on 98 carries, and led the defense with 54 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks.
Jevyn Severson led the receiving corps with 407 yards and 4 touchdowns on 23 receptions, and added 39.5 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.
Emerson Bridgewater had 295 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 17 receptions.
Terrin Lawrenson recorded 53 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 4 sacks.
Brady Springer added 49 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.
Kinnick Grimm had 3 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 touchdown, and 24.5 tackles.
Logan Bogardus contributed 3 interceptions and 12.5 tackles.
