BOONE, Iowa—Ron Bass, 79, of Boone, passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Ron was born January 22, 1946, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Thurman and Marie (Kuchera) Bass. He was raised in Dayton, Iowa, and graduated from Dayton High School in 1964. Ron served in the US Army from 1965 to 1967.
After he was honorably discharged, Ron was united in marriage to Alice Eckley on October 22, 1967 in Boone. They first made their home in Dayton, then Boone, and have lived in their current home in Jordan since 1998.
Ron enjoyed watching NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr., fishing, classic cars, CHEVY trucks, and he had a great sense of humor. He was a very well respected and good man, who loved to share his knowledge with everyone. Ron was kind of a MacGyver; he could fix anything and make anything out of nothing. Most of all, Ron loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Marie Bass; and an infant son, Scott Bass.
Ron is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice Bass; daughter, Sarah Bass; four grandchildren, Bryon (Ashley) Taylor, Taylor (Jacob Holt) Trotter, Kaylie Taylor and Eyan Neely; siblings, Ilene Buttz, Viola Winters, Allen (Nancy) Bass, Alvin (Brenda) Bass and Janet Bass; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, December 12, 2025, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, with a time to share memories at 5:30 PM.
