
On Monday, December 8, the Madrid Tigers girls’ basketball team defeated Eagle Grove 42-24 in a non-conference matchup at Madrid High School.
The Tigers started evenly with Eagle Grove in the first quarter, tied at 7-7, but Madrid took control in the second, outscoring the Eagles 14-6 to lead 21-13 at halftime.
Madrid’s defense dominated the third quarter, holding Eagle Grove to just 1 point, and the Tigers cruised to victory.
Lauren Dvorak led the way with a double-double, scoring 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting and pulling down 17 rebounds, including 9 offensive boards.
She also added a block and a steal.
Laura Eagleton chipped in 10 points, hitting two three-pointers, while Mayzie Surratt added 9 points.
Audrey Brown contributed 6 assists and 5 rebounds, while Samantha Springer added 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Pleasantville 47, Madrid 44
The Tigers’ unbeaten streak ended Tuesday, December 9, as Madrid dropped a close 47-44 decision to Pleasantville in a West Central Activities Conference matchup on the road.
The game was tight throughout, with Madrid leading 12-10 after the first quarter.
Pleasantville edged ahead by halftime, 20-18, and the teams traded baskets in the second half.
Madrid entered the fourth quarter down by one, but Pleasantville sealed the win.
Dvorak again led Madrid with 15 points, including 2-of-3 from beyond the arc, and grabbed 16 rebounds.
Surratt had 12 points, hitting two three-pointers and going 4-of-6 from the field.
Eagleton added 10 points and 3 rebounds, while Audrey Brown dished out 5 assists and grabbed 4 boards.
Springer contributed 2 assists.
Madrid now sits at 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Madrid looks to bounce back on Friday, December 12, when they host Woodward-Granger (2-2) in another conference matchup.
Tip-off is set for 6:00 PM at Madrid High School.
