
The Madrid Tigers boys’ basketball team earned a hard-fought 50-44 victory over Woodward-Granger in a West Central Activities Conference matchup Friday, December 12, at Madrid High School.
The game was tight from the start, with Woodward-Granger jumping ahead, 15-10, after the first quarter.
Madrid responded in the second quarter, outscoring the Hawks, 12-7, to cut the deficit to just two points at halftime.
The Tigers seized control in the third quarter, using an 18-point surge to take the lead and held on through the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Madrid was led by Emerson Bridgewater and Jevyn Severson, who each scored 17 points and shot an identical 7-for-14 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
Bridgewater also dominated the glass with 12 rebounds, including 6 offensive boards, while adding 1 block and 3 steals.
Severson contributed 9 rebounds and 3 assists, providing a strong performance.
Max Fowler added 8 points and pulled down 6 rebounds, while Kolbie Owens chipped in with 6 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists.
With the win, Madrid improves to 5-1 overall, while Woodward-Granger drops to 2-2.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, December 16, hosting Van Meter (2-2) in another conference showdown.
Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM, following the girls’ game at 6:00 PM.
