The Boone Toreadors boys’ basketball team nearly pulled off a comeback Friday, December 12, but their rally fell just short as Gilbert held on for a 59-54 victory in Raccoon River Conference play at Gilbert High School.

Gilbert controlled the first half, jumping out to an 11-5 lead after the first quarter and using a big second-quarter run to take a commanding 32-10 advantage at halftime.

The Tigers extended their lead to 49-20 after three quarters, but Boone refused to quit.

The Toreadors erupted in the fourth quarter, outscoring Gilbert 24-10 behind a surge from Landon Myers, who scored 17 points in the second half and finished with 21 points overall on 9-of-12 shooting, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.

Myers also dominated the boards with 15 rebounds, adding 4 offensive boards, 2 blocks, and a steal.

Hendrix Moorman fueled the comeback with 17 points, hitting five three-pointers and pulling down 3 rebounds.

Abel Tungesvik contributed 6 points and went 4-for-4 from the line, while also dishing out 2 assists.

Boone’s late push cut the deficit from 29 points down to just five, but Gilbert managed to hold on in the final minute to secure the win.

Cole Christeson added 7 rebounds and 3 assists, and Dayne Brekke had 3 assists.

With the loss, Boone falls to 0-2 in conference play and 2-2 overall, while Gilbert improves to 2-1 in the Raccoon River Conference and 3-1 overall.

The Toreadors will look to bounce back on Tuesday, December 16, when they travel to Carroll for another conference matchup.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM at Carroll High School Gym.
