The Boone girls’ wrestling team had two individual champions and finished 4th as a team at its annual tournament on Saturday, December 20.
Poppy Malone (105 lbs) went 3-0 on the day and won the championship with three pins, including a fall in just 56 seconds in the finals.
Cadence Heggen (190 lbs) also claimed gold, pinning all three opponents, capped by a 1:59 fall in the title match.
Abigail Molitor (140 lbs) battled her way to the finals with two pins and a tech fall before finishing as runner-up.
McKayla Silbaugh (145 lbs) earned 4th place after a strong run through the consolation bracket, scoring multiple pins.
Johanna Meeks (120 lbs) and Emersyn Zehner (135 lbs) both finished 5th.
Gracie Vodenik (155 lbs) also placed 5th, closing her day with a pin in the final match.
Gabriella Eckard (7th at 190 lbs) and Brooklynn Elliott (7th at 235 lbs) also wrestled well.
Ames won the meet with 203 points, followed by Gilbert with 175.5 points, Independence with 156.5 points and Boone was fourth with 154.5 points.
