
BOONE, Iowa—Marvin H. Holmberg, 93, of Boone, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Westhaven Community in Boone.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, January 2, 2026, at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, with Pastor Marvin Lee Cross officiating. Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Boone Memorial Gardens Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
Marvin was born June 12, 1932, on the family farm, near Ogden, the son of Herman and Hedvig (Erickson) Holmberg. He attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School in 1951. Marvin served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.
Marvin was united in marriage to Sharon Jackson on September 6, 1959, in Boone. He was employed by the City of Boone, as a meterman for a number of years and police officer. Marvin retired as a Captain from the Boone Police Department, where he was an officer for over 30 years, in 1990.
He was a former member of the American Legion. Marvin and Sharon volunteered for a number of years, from the time the giftshop first opened, at the Scenic Valley Railroad.
Marvin was a member of Central Christian Church, where he had served as a chairman on the board, Deacon and Elder. He loved sports, he played softball, enjoyed golfing, boating and was an avid New York Yankees and Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Marvin was very involved with little league, he was on the board, umpired and coached numerous little league games and teams. Marvin became state certified and officiated girls high school softball games as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Sharon in 2024; two great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters.
Marvin is survived by his son, James Marvin Holmberg; daughter, Leisa (Joe) Passet; six grandchildren, Joshua (Jocelyn) Holmberg, Timothy (Keely) Passet, Heather Ann Jarvis, Holly (John) Fleming, Abigayle Holmberg and Thomas Holmberg; and eight great-grandchildren.
