The Madrid Tigers boys’ basketball team protected its home court Monday, January 5, to secure a 66–58 non‑conference victory over Ankeny Christian.
Madrid built a 21–12 lead after the first quarter and stretched the lead to 35–26 at halftime.
The advantage grew to 47–36 by the end of the third quarter.
But the key to closing out the game came in the fourth quarter—and it came at the free‑throw line.
Logan Bogardus delivered in crunch time, going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free‑throw line in the second half, with most of those shots coming in the fourth quarter.
Bogardus finished with 15 points and added a three-pointer.
Jevyn Severson poured in 26 points on 12-of-17 shooting while grabbing 14 rebounds, including five offensive boards.
Severson also added two blocks and two assists.
Zach Newell contributed 9 points, all from beyond the arc, knocking down three triples.
He also pulled down 8 rebounds and blocked a shot.
Max Fowler dished out 5 assists with zero turnovers.
Emerson Bridgewater added 3 assists and 8 rebounds, while Kolbie Owens chipped in two assists.
With the win, Madrid improves to 8–3 overall, while Ankeny Christian drops to 6–2.
The Tigers return to West Central Activities Conference play on Friday, January 9, when they host Adair‑Casey/Guthrie Center (2–4) at Madrid High School.
