Larry Anderson

Larry Anderson, 85, Boone, Iowa

BOONE, Iowa—Larry Paul Anderson was born July 28, 1940, in Newton, Iowa, to Paul E. Anderson and Wilma “Billie” (Eaton) Anderson, and passed away February 2, 2026, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home in Boone, Iowa.

Larry grew up in Boone, Iowa, graduating from Boone Junior-Senior High School in 1958. He attended college for one year before returning home to assist his family. Larry grew up with and is survived by his siblings: William “Bill” Anderson, Patty (Bob) Scholten, Robert “Bob” Anderson, and Dennis “Denny” (Kathy) Anderson.

He worked a variety of jobs over the years, starting with a clothing store and an International Harvester dealership, and later retiring from Quinn Foundry & Machine in 1989.

Larry was united in marriage to Gloria (Cramb) Anderson from 1965 until 1979. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Melissa (Jerry) Spencer, Matthew Anderson, and Meredith (Kevin) VanHouten. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Danelle Anderson.

Larry was later united in marriage to Colleen (Williams) Anderson in October 1981. Larry is survived by his wife of 44 years, Colleen; and stepchildren: Holly (Todd) Christensen and Hans (Amy) Pollard. He was preceded in death by stepdaughter Heather (Pollard) Bowers.

Larry is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Larry was a social butterfly, and everyone in Boone either knew him directly or knew his parents and siblings. He dedicated much of his life to public service. Over the years, he volunteered with the Boone Red Cross, served as a Deacon and Elder with the Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Boone Elks Lodge No. 2884. Larry served in the Iowa National Guard, 1064th Transportation Company, based at the Boone Armory, enlisting in 1963 and retiring as a Staff Sergeant in 1990. In the 1970s, Larry received a Volunteer Award from Governor Robert Ray for his dedicated assistance to Laotian and Vietnamese families settling in Iowa after the Vietnam War.

Funeral arrangements are being provided by Schroder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home. Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 612 8th Street, Boone, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m., with services following at 1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow at Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone.

Memorials may be made in Larry’s name to the Boone Area Humane Society, 228 W. 16th Street, Boone, IA 50036.

Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements.
