Ogden boys place third at home tourney

The Ogden boys’ wrestling team finished third overall at the Ogden Individual Tournament on its home mats Saturday, January 24. 

Coon Rapids‑Bayard won the team title with 183 points, followed by Montezuma (140). 

Ogden edged Des Moines East and Beaman-Conrad-Liscomb/Union Whitten‑South Hardin in an eight‑team field. 

Eklund captured the 132‑pound title while going a perfect 5‑0 on the day. 

He opened the tournament with a technical fall and a pair of quick pins before adding another tech fall and closing with an 8‑2 decision in the championship match.  

At 138 pounds, Munson claimed first place, recording four wins by fall. 

Munson pinned his way through the bracket, with all of his victories coming in under one minute. 

Ogden also received a placement from Dillon Moe, who finished first at 150 pounds.  

Moe recorded a technical fall and a pin in his two matches. 

Ogden added two runner‑up finishes to its total.  

At 120 pounds, Riley Saunders placed second after recording back‑to‑back first‑round pins before falling in the championship match.  

Landon Alexander earned a second‑place finish at 165 pounds with two technical falls and two pins before dropping the title match. 

Cooper Long put together a strong day at 126 pounds, placing fourth. 

Long recorded four wins by fall after an opening loss to earn his placement. 

At 144 pounds, Trent Whiton placed fourth, bouncing back from early setbacks to earn a pin before facing tough competition in the later rounds. 

Additional scoring came from Chase Young, who placed fourth at 190 pounds, and Cash Williams, who placed sixth at 215 pounds. 

Lincoln Buchwald rounded out Ogden’s place winners with a seventh‑place finish at 215 pounds. 

The Bulldogs will compete against Nevada, Roland-Story and Iowa Falls-Alden Thursday, January 29, at a quad in Nevada.
