
The Boone boys’ wrestling team competed at the Ed Winger Invitational on Saturday, January 24, finishing 16th overall with 59 team points in a 22‑team tournament held at Urbandale High School.
West Des Moines Dowling Catholic won the team title with 176 points, followed by Bettendorf (156) and Waukee Northwest (135).
Boone was led by a strong showing from Ajay Braddock at 132 pounds, who earned a third‑place finish at 132 pounds.
Braddock opened the tournament with back‑to‑back pins over wrestlers from Ames and Waukee Northwest before dropping a tight semifinal match in sudden victory.
Braddock responded with a major decision in the consolation rounds and capped his day with a 4‑2 decision win in the third‑place match.
At 165 pounds, Brody Warrick placed sixth.
Warrick earned a pin in his opening match and a technical fall in consolations before medical forfeits ended his tournament in the placement rounds.
At 144 pounds, Tate Hollenkamp battled through the consolation bracket to place seventh.
Hollenkamp recorded four victories after his opening‑round loss, including a major decision, a technical fall, and two wins by fall, capped by a pin in the seventh‑place match.
Owen Thomas added another seventh‑place finish at 150 pounds.
Thomas opened the tournament with a first‑round fall and rebounded from a pair of close losses to secure back‑to‑back pins in the consolation rounds, including a victory over in the placement match.
Trent Eckard placed eighth at 175 pounds.
Eckard opened with a narrow decision win before facing a tough stretch, finishing the day with two wins by decision and major decision.
Boone also picked up team points at 120 pounds from Mason Oostenink, who earned a fall in the consolation bracket.
