Madrid girls fall in home finale

In its final home game of the regular season, the Madrid girls’ basketball team came up short in a 49–40 loss to Interstate 35 in West Central Activities Conference play on Friday, February 6.

In its final home game of the regular season, the Madrid girls’ basketball team came up short in a 49–40 loss to Interstate 35 in West Central Activities Conference play on Friday, February 6.  

Lauren Dvorak led Madrid with 18 points on 7-for-10 shooting while adding 16 rebounds, including six offensive boards.  

Dvorak also contributed two steals and a block. 

Samantha Springer added 7 points, going 2-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 at the free‑throw line.  

She also pulled down 5 rebounds and recorded two steals. 

Laura Eagleton matched Springer with 7 points, hitting 3-of-14 from the floor and 1-of-6 from deep.  

Audrey Brown added 3 rebounds, an offensive board, and a steal, while freshman Mayzie Surratt also pulled down 3 rebounds and led Madrid with 3 assists. 

Mayzie Surratt dished out 3 assists, Audrey Brown contributed 2 assists and Springer also added 2 assists. 

With the loss, Madrid moves to 10–10 overall and 4–10 in West Central Conference play.  

Interstate 35 improves to 6-12 overall and 3-9 in the conference. 

Madrid now turns its attention to its final regular-season challenge—a road matchup on Tuesday, February 10, at Adair‑Casey/Guthrie Center, a team currently 16–4 overall and 12–2 in conference play.
