Today on Coach's Corner, we're going to look back at the Ogden Boys basketball season as Ogden finished up the 2025-2026 season with a record of 6-18 overall. They were 1-14 in West Central Activities Conference play. Things got off to a pretty good start for Ogden.
In fact, they were 1-1 after their first two games, lost a heartbreaker to Greene County 67-63 but rebounded with a win over Perry 69-58. Then there were those games that were just so close. West Central Valley was one of those where they lost 44-38.
That was back on December 5th. They also had one with ACGC on the road where actually we're down by single digits into the fourth quarter but lost that one 63-50. They went to the Christmas break with a loss at hosting Woodward Granger 50-40.
Coming out of the break, I think that was the thing that was going to be difficult for Ogden is that they knew they would host Madrid. They'd be at Van Meter, at Panorama, at West Central Valley.
Right out of Christmas break, you had three of your first four games that were going to be on the road. Obviously, taking on a defending 1A state champion in Madrid was going to be difficult to start that road. They lost that one 83-57.
Then a couple of those on the road where one of them actually was a victory and that was their win at Panorama 75-64. They also got another win just a few days later when they beat Peyton Chardin 64-50 and held on to beat Woodward Academy 57-55. So a couple of good wins in a row.
Unfortunately then, some sickness kind of hit the team. I remember this game, we covered Ogden and Glidden Ralston. That was back on January the 19th. That was a night that Ogden had, if I remember right, four of their five starters were out with sickness that night.
That obviously depletes your bench as well. Glidden Ralston got the win 65-59. Now if that's an Ogden team that has everybody able to play that night, probably a different story. I would have guessed Ogden comes up with the win.
Still that sickness kind of hangs over for obviously the next night against ACGC. Although they hung around at home with the Chargers 55-39, they lost that game.
As we got then to kind of that next stretch then late January into February, had a tough loss on the road at Erlen, lost that one by three. Panorama came to town on senior night. Panthers get the win there 58-53.
Ogden knew going into the postseason that they would have to travel on the road at Interstate 35. That was a game that early in the season, actually back on December 9th, Interstate 35 beat Ogden 81-64. But the night that Ogden went down to Truro, it was a different story.
As the Bulldogs came up with a victory over Interstate 35, 87-68, just a big night offensively for the Bulldogs in that victory. They had 51 points at the halftime break. This was an Ogden team that was definitely able to score the basketball here this season.
When you look back at them per game, they were scoring it. Not bad. This is a team that's putting up around 54-55 points a game. As we said though, at halftime they had 51 points against Interstate 35. They did just enough that night to get the win.
67-68, so a district tournament victory for the Bulldogs, which meant then they had to go to Tri-Center. Tri-Center had a very, very strong season where the Trojans were able to only lose a couple of games on the season.
So going in, that was going to be an uphill climb obviously to take on Tri-Center. Tri-Center came out with a very big first quarter. They outscored Ogden 31-11. But if you look at the rest of the night, it was pretty even. Tri-Center outscored them in the second quarter, 24-22.
It was 19-19 in the third quarter and then Tri-Center outscored them 25-23 in the fourth quarter. But Tri-Center did get the victory that night, 99-75 as that ended Ogden season at 6-18.
Now looking back statistically for the season for Ogden, and like I talked about earlier with scoring, not really a problem there. You had two guys in double digits. Colson Carson, Led Ogden was scoring this year at 14.8 points per ballgame. Braid Miller at 13.7.
Then you had Jace Coleman at 9.4. Jordan Benjamin at 7.5. So that's pretty good scoring out of your top four.
Only problem with that is now as we kind of look ahead to next season, you lose quite a bit of that scoring with Carson obviously, graduation, Coleman, Benjamin, wrist fit as well off the bench, was able to give them some good scoring this year.
So there's some pretty good scoring that will not be returning next season. Now you do return Braid Miller the junior who is your second leading scorer on the year at 13.7 points a game. He also rebounds well with 5.2 rebounds per game.
Nate Swisher the sophomore, he'll be back again for next season. Swisher at 6.5 points a game. He will also average right around 5 rebounds per contest. Now Ben Sneddon didn't play a ton of varsity until the end of this season, but Sneddon the freshman gave him a good lift.
He was 4.5 points per ballgame and also 3.5 assists per game. So not only can he score the ball, he can also put people in position to score as well. Kobe Current will be back next year. Carson Lloyd who didn't get to play a lot this season due to injury will be back.
Landon Bell, I mean there's a pretty good bunch of pieces that will be returning next year for Ogden. Now they will have a new head coach and so that's obviously kind of a new philosophy that will be coming in for next season. We start talking about basketball 2026 to 2027.
And Bulldogs finish up their season 6 and 18 overall. They were 1 and 14 in West Central Activities Conference play. That will obviously change when you look at conference next year with Woodward Granger leaving the conference.
Des Moines Christian will be leaving after next year and Van Meter also will be leaving the West Central Activities Conference and there's already preliminary on who could be also coming in to the West Central Conference to kind of add to what we'll be losing.
But the schedule will change around a little bit as well and as we talked about there will be a new head coach for 2026 to 2027. That's a review of the Ogden Boys basketball season. From KWBG I'm Ryan Wentz reporting.
