
Sprinter Paige Richards placed second in two events for the Madrid girls’ track and field team at the IATC Indoor Championships on Friday, March 13, at Iowa State University’s Lied Recreation Center.
Richards, a sophomore, placed second in both the 60‑meter dash and the 200 meters.
She ran 8.01 in the 60m final and followed with a 26.68 in the 200m.
Richards began her meet by qualifying through the prelims with an 8.14 in the 60 meters.
Distance events
Senior Inna Howard placed 8th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.77.
In the 800 meters, junior Katelyn Brandhorst earned a 4th‑place finish in 2:30.10.
Sophomore Hannah Brandhorst clocked 5:18.20 for 8th in the 1500 meters.
In the 3000 meters, sophomore Madelyn Grothus finished 6th with a time of 11:32.80.
Field events
Junior Lauren Dvorak threw 32‑00.25 to finish 10th in Class 1A.
Relays
Madrid closed the meet with two relay performances that provided momentum for the outdoor season.
Madrid’s 4×400 relay—Alyssa White, Josie Hansen, Livi Benton and Richards—finished 22nd in 4:47.51.
Finally, the 4×800 relay—Madelyn Grothus, Howard, Hannah Brandhorst and Katelyn Brandhorst—secured a 4th‑place finish in 10:46.01.
The Madrid girls and boys next compete against Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Earlham and Gilbert at the ADM early bird meet Thursday, March 26.
