BOONE, Iowa—The Boone City Council has voted to delay the annual citywide clean-up until October. At a Special Council meeting Wednesday afternoon, Councilmembers, Mayor Dave Casotti and City Staff reviewed the annual project, the cost for conducting the clean-up and the issues generated by residents not following the guidelines for materials that will be picked up and taken to the landfill.
The first year for the clean-up was 2006 and City Personnel picked items that were being thrown away but were not taken by regular garbage pickup, like an old deck that was being replaced, fencing, outdoor items. Even though household waste was not included in the clean-up, those things that are taken during regular garbage pickup, it has become one of the primary issues facing the future of the event.
Mayor Dave Casotti said he believes many want the event to continue, but with the timing this spring it will not be possible to do the clean-up in June. In the meantime, the Council will work on solutions to handle the issues that keep coming up.
