
The Madrid boys’ track and field team had four runners-up as it opened its outdoor season Tuesday, March 31, at the Earlham Early Bird Meet.
Field events
Jevyn Severson finished second in the shot put with a throw of 53‑05.
Severson also placed sixth in the discus at 122‑11, and Brady Springer finished 10th in the long jump in 17-09.75.
Relay events
The sprint medley relay team of Mason Morman, Loken Velky, Tyler Sonnenfelt and Jake Sawyer placed second overall with a time of 1:38.70.
The 4×800‑meter relay team of Cavin Pehl, Henry Hudnall, Hudson White and Kris Petersen finished third in 9:00.48.
Sander Nelson, Kole Deppe, Chase Perkins and Springer placed fifth in the 4×200‑meter relay and also finished 10th in the 4×100‑meter relay in 48.20.
The 4×400‑meter relay of Landon Lenehan, Hudnall, Corbin Furness and Petersen placed sixth in 3:56.43.
Individual events
In the 800‑meter run, Caleb Berberich claimed second place with a time of 2:07.41.
In the 400‑meter dash, Sonnenfelt earned second place with a time of 52.99.
Sawyer finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.25.
Pehl placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run, while White followed in seventh in 5:14.69.
Velky finished sixth in the 100‑meter dash in 11.86, and Morman placed 13th in 12.56.
The boys are next scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 7, at the Ink Wunderly Relays at South Central Calhoun High School in Lake City.
