Fred Hagaman

Fred Hagaman, 76, Ames, Iowa

AMES, Iowa—Fred Hagaman, 76, of Ames and formerly of Boone, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.

Fred was born May 23, 1949 in Boone, the son of Frank and Lois (Debner) Hagaman. He graduated from Boone High School in 1968. After graduation, Fred stayed busy as a semi-truck driver for various companies. After his time as a driver, he worked at Iowa State University and Mary Greeley Medical Center as a custodian, and at Hy-Vee as a stocker. On October 31, 1992, Fred married Kathy James in Minnesota. He was an active Moose Lodge member.

Fred loved sports, both watching and participating. He played in baseball and softball leagues, managed Little League games, and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals. In his younger years, Fred ran cross country; and in his later years, he and Kathy enjoyed playing golf at Don Williams. He frequented Iowa State football and basketball games, along with rooting for the San Francisco 49ers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Pat Miller, Mary Barry, and Fonda Anderson; and brother, Frankie Hagaman.

Fred is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Kathy Hagaman; daughter, Amy (Mike) Deaton; three step children, Chris (Laura) Goodwin, Ben (Heather) Goodwin, and Laura Sauceda; eight grandchildren, Jon, Brooklyn, Seth, Luke, Annika, Lillian, Emi, and Zoe; sister, Jan Price; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, 1006 6th Street, Boone, with Rev. Adam Gordon officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets in Boone. Online condolences may be left to Fred’s family at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
