Erin Canfield Announces Re-Election Campaign, Continues to Focus on Efficiency and Workplace Improvement

KWBG 04/10/26

BOONE, Iowa—Erin Canfield, the current Boone County Recorder, has officially announced her campaign for re-election. She emphasizes her continued commitment to improving office operations, modernizing record systems, and fostering a more collaborative and productive workplace environment, while maintaining a strong focus on fiscal responsibility.

Since taking office in 2023, Canfield has implemented meaningful changes that have enhanced office operations and strengthened collaboration across departments. She prioritized improvements to workflow by thoughtfully restructuring daily tasks, resulting in more efficient processes. These changes have led to faster service for patrons seeking certified copies of vital records, marriage licenses, titling and registration of off-road vehicles and vessels, and document recording services. Additionally, she eliminated unnecessary duplication of DNR documents and recordings, generating cost savings for taxpayers.

Beyond operational improvements, Canfield has worked to cultivate a positive and engaging workplace culture within the Recorder’s Office and throughout the county. She launched an internal employee newsletter to keep staff informed about activities across departments, recognize employee milestones such as birthdays and anniversaries, and share information related to wellness, safety, and upcoming events. She also co-founded the Employee Engagement Committee (EEC), which meets monthly to organize countywide initiatives that promote connection among employees, including events such as luncheons and door-decorating contests. Importantly, EEC activities are funded through donations and fundraising efforts, not taxpayer dollars.

In 2025, with approval from the Board, Canfield led the transition to a new software provider, Fidlar Technologies. This upgrade has delivered significant benefits to both the Recorder’s Office and Boone County residents. Recorded documents and their indexing are now consolidated into a single system, reducing processing time and improving efficiency. The transition to electronic document sharing has eliminated the need for paper copies and physical media, reducing both labor and supply costs. Fidlar Technologies also provides valuable public tools, including Property Fraud Alert, Notary Fraud Alert, and online DNR renewals. Canfield has worked closely with her staff and Fidlar to successfully implement these services for public use.

Canfield is seeking re-election to continue advancing the Recorder’s Office. Her goals include expanding access to additional programs through Fidlar Technologies, such as Swift, Honor Rewards, and Citadel, while maintaining a standard of friendly service, operational efficiency, and fiscally responsible leadership. Canfield asks for your vote in the Primary on June 2nd and again on November 3rd.
