Coaches Corner for May 8th: Nic Mishler, DMACC Baseball

with us on coach's corner on KWBG going to talk some DMACC baseball. Nick Micheler joining us as the Bears in the post season got a region 11 victory yesterday over northeast Nebraska didn't make it easy on the old ball coach got behind five to one but then man those bats kind of lit up after that coach tell me about the beginning stages though kind of falling behind and having to scratch back yeah we you know we actually first in the bottom of the first to take the lead early and did it in kind of a tough way and you know we came out and we just we made some unfortunate mistakes defensively and put them in a position to score some early runs but you know we did leave leave a couple guys out there I thought we were resilient from that standpoint so we picked each other up nicely to keep it out of five to one gamer and you know I liked our bats early in the game and eventually we just kept you know kept going kept going I felt like we tired their pitcher out a little bit to the point where we could finally get to them and and again and and baseball when you could have the biggest ending a lot of times you're going to win the game and I think we would put up a five or six spot there in the middle endings and re-pook the lead and kind of cashed everyone that we could have whether it be via sex lies or two out and off and so I wasn't surprised our guys have have shown me all year that they're not going to quit they're going to continue to play hard and all those things and they did again yesterday so could they kind of get some of those first game jitters out of the way I was tournament and very pleased with how our guys competed I was going to ask you about that Nick because you said that off air to me and the more that we started talking here I kind of started reflecting back on you saying that it is that it is that kind of finality I mean if you have a tournament and they're you know I mean there's some other ways to obviously get to the World Series but that's a difficult you know trip if you don't win the region 11 so there probably are some jitters out there that I guess I didn't really think about yeah for sure yeah the importance of winning the tournament secures your best chance at making it to the World Series so guys want to do well and I mean the teams in our tournament are really good and so um you know it's just one of those things where especially for first year freshman that haven't experienced the postseason yet it's just a new element so after yesterday they're not fresh anymore they've experienced it now they can go out and just play play normal I guess I would say well speaking of experienced Brock and Cole couple of sophomores for you had I know a couple of RBIs for you coach I know sometimes there's years where it has to be the freshman to step up but man I don't feel bad when I get a chance to look down my dugout coach and I see a whole bunch of sophomores there that are raring to go because they know what it's like real nice to see those two have a big game yesterday yeah they both were great and then honestly you throw Austin Anderson had a big day as well behind a dish but also offensively had some huge at bats for us I mean really extended ending with a big knock you can just go down the list like cancer sophomore another one that had a big day and so kind of go down the list of guys that did a lot of good things for us and you know I think more importantly when we went down our guys didn't panic or doing anything from that standpoint I could see in their faces they knew what they needed to do to get back in the game and I was just contending to play our game put pressure on the bases and you know you could get back into it alright so obviously it's funny to say this because the tournament's not like it's a week long tournament but man this region 11 tournament has always been a grind what did you talk to your pitching staff about coach when you're getting ready for this I mean you got to have everybody ready at any given you know third of an inning half an inning maybe a couple of innings I mean what did you talk to your staff about yeah I mean the conversation with the staff is like hey you got to get the guy out in front of you and you know I'll come take the ball from you when I feel like it's fine could be one batter could be one time through the order you know they just know that their job is to go out and let it rip and not have to worry about hey I need to give us seven innings or whatever I think one of the strengths our pitching staff does have is that we have a lot of quality arms that are capable of getting guys out and we have to have someone go out and give us 100 pitches and seven innings for us to have success we can play matchups and do some things like that so I think it's free guys up a little bit to go out and just let it rip and execute the pitch in front of them well and you did something yesterday Nick that I know you're going to be probably a big smile on your face when I say this but your pitching staff had one walk yesterday you did not give up pre-vases yeah I think maybe two hit by pitches but and we we pitch in and that's something that's going to happen from time to time but yeah I know I mean that's the name of the game like you have free passes and coming back to hurry you gotta get the on attack and fill the balls with dish alright Southeastern number one seed obviously they had a fantastic regular season this is not a team of course with you guys being in the same conference that you didn't see you had a couple of close ones with him six five and eight to four give you a little bit of confidence going into today yeah I mean again like they're good teams all teams are playing with their good teams Southeastern coached extremely well but again I like the way our guys play and you know I like our teams against anyone I mean I truly do I think you know we were in good ball games with them kind of gave one away there and game two of the series and I think it's a good opportunity for guys to come out and respond and play our game and see what happens so not feel good about it feel good about our guys going out and competing and you know it's fun to come play this type of talent that's why they come to DMAC for and to play the top talent and our conference obviously in the country too when you're talking about Southeastern and so we've had a bunch of good battles over the year and I'm excited to see you guys compete today Nick as always thank you so much for some time best of luck over in Carroll today and we'll talk again real soon yeah thank you very
