Linda Nutt, 83, Boone, Iowa
BOONE, Iowa—Linda Nutt, age 83, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 10. A private family funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Boone with burial of her cremains following at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family would like to invite friends and loved ones to a celebration of Linda’s life on Thursday, May 21, 2026 from 5:00-8:00 pm at the Cedar Pointe Golf Course Clubhouse, Boone, Iowa.
Linda was born on January 3, 1943, in Dexter, Iowa to Richard and Rosella Hopkins. She moved to Boone, Iowa as a child and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1961. She attended University of Northern Iowa and became an elementary educator. She taught for 35 years, most of them at North Middle School in Ogden, Iowa. She loved passing along her love for science and phenomena to her students, children, and grandchildren and for many years was the person to consult about any science related. She spent many years attending every activity that her girls were involved with, sitting on the sidelines as their most avid cheerleader and then continued to cheer for all her grandchildren in their many activities. Throughout her life, she loved getting into trouble doing some crazy shenanigans, particularly with her best friend, Jane Martin. In retirement, Linda loved golfing with her “Golfing Grannies” and enjoyed lunches and dinners out with all her friends, and a day never went by without Linda being seen with her Diet Coke (with an extra glass of ice).
Linda is survived by her brother, Ron (Judy) Hopkins of Edmonds, WA, two daughters: Kathy (Brian) McCarey of Byron, Illinois, and Wendy (Travis) Patterson of Boone, Iowa, and six grandchildren, Andrew (Stephanie) McCarey, Erin (Carl) Anderson, Austin (Mackenzie) McCarey, Meghan McCarey and her boyfriend Alec Torres, Brett Patterson and his fiancé Kaelin Lamphere, and Ben Patterson; along with 6 great-grandchildren Everly and Annie Anderson, Rory and Campbell McCarey, and Finley and Parker McCarey. Linda was preceded in death by her husband Tom, and her mother Rosella Hopkins.
Since both Tom and his wife Linda were longtime educators in the area, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Boone Education Endowment Fund for Boone Community School students or to the Boone Area Humane Society. They may be mailed in care of the Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home, 609 7th Street, Boone, Iowa 50036.
