
The Boone baseball team bounced back from a quiet opener to earn a split with Gilbert in a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader at Memorial Park, falling 5–1 in Game 1 before rallying for an 8–6 victory in Game 2 Monday, June 15.
Game 1: Gilbert 5, Boone 1
Gilbert controlled the first game to secure the 5–1 win.
Tyce Carlson drove in the Toreadors’ lone run, finishing with one hit and one RBI.
Noah Davies scored Boone’s only run, while Braxton Gifford added a base hit.
Conor Scoggins was tagged with the loss in a relief appearance, recording four strikeouts.
Game 2: Boone 8, Gilbert 6
The Toreadors responded in the nightcap to earn the split.
Boone struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, then broke things open with three runs in the third and three more in the fourth.
The Toreadors added an insurance run in the sixth.
Gilbert countered with a run in the top of the third and briefly surged ahead with a five-run fourth inning, but Boone answered immediately to regain control and hold on late.
Davies totaled three hits, scored two runs, drove in two, and stole five bases.
RJ Lennon recorded 1 hit, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI, and Landon Youngblood had 2 hits and 1 run scored.
Gifford had 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI, and Carlson recorded 1 RBI.
Ryan Bowers and Behn each scored 1 run.
Starting pitcher Behn recorded five strikeouts, Youngblood had 4 strikeouts out of the bullpen and Noah Gorman got the win in relief.
Boone moves to 6–6 overall and 2–4 in Raccoon River Conference play following the split.
Gilbert now stands at 10–5 overall and 6–2 in the conference.
The Toreadors travel to Dyersville’s Field of Dreams Wednesday, June 17, for a conference matchup against Winterset.
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Winterset enters with a 10–6 overall record and a 4–4 conference mark.
