The Ogden baseball team kept its postseason hopes alive Tuesday, July 7, holding off a late challenge from Interstate 35 for a 6-5 victory in a Class 2A Substate 2 game at Norsemen Field in Story City.

The Bulldogs (14-17) used a pair of three-run innings to build enough cushion and then relied on a complete-game effort from pitcher Colson Carson to secure the win over the Roadrunners (23-10).

I-35 struck first with a run in the bottom of the opening inning, but Ogden answered in the top of the third.

The Bulldogs pushed across three runs to take a 3-1 lead before I-35 responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to trim the deficit to 3-2.

The Roadrunners surged in front during the fourth, scoring three runs to grab a 5-3 advantage.

Ogden, however, responded in the top of the fifth.

The Bulldogs scored three more runs to regain the lead at 6-5 and then made it stand the rest of the way.

Carson led the effort on the mound, striking out seven and going the distance in the complete-game victory.

Carson added a hit and an RBI at the plate, while Keagan Ristvedt finished with a hit and a run scored.

Brody Burdette scored a run and drove in another, and Hunter Mitchels, Christian Thede, CeJay Jones and Riley Saunders each collected a hit.

Jones also scored a run, Logan Ryan crossed the plate twice, and Treyton Mitchell contributed an RBI.

With the victory, Ogden advances to the substate final and will face powerhouse Roland-Story (35-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Norsemen Field in Story City.
