Firefighters Extinguish House Fire, One Injured Jumping from Second Floor Window

KWBG 07/10/26

BOONE, Iowa—Shortly before noon Thursday, the Boone Fire Department was sent to the scene of a house fire with reports of people jumping from windows. Multiple engines were sent to the scene and were able to quickly contain the fire. The person that jumped from the window has not been identified and was being treated at the scene by ambulance personnel from the Boone County Hospital and Boone Police Officers. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The Boone Fire Department has made a more detailed report available on a Facebook post:

At approximately 11:53 this morning, the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to the area of 13th and Carroll Streets for a residence on fire with occupants jumping from the windows. Engine 8-65 responded with 3 firefighters and immediately requested an all-call for off-duty firefighters to respond to assist. The on-duty crew arrived less than 5 minutes after the 911 call was placed, finding smoke coming from the residence and a single occupant having already jumped from the second floor, being attended to by law enforcement and paramedics with Boone County Ambulance. Truck 8-66 and Rescue 8-64 arrived approximately 8 minutes later with 4 additional firefighters.

Engine 8-65 crew deployed an attack line into the structure, delayed slightly due to locked and barricaded doors. A fire was located on the first floor and extinguished approximately 9 minutes after the arrival of the on-duty crew. Crews continued searching the residence finding no additional occupants. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately an hour and a half.

A single occupant was transported to the Boone County Hospital by ambulance for smoke inhalation and injuries from the fall. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Boone Fire Department, Boone Police Department and Iowa State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The Boone Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Boone County Communications Center, Boone County Ambulance, Boone Police Department, Boone County Sheriff’s Office and Alliant Energy.
