
The Boone softball team wasted little time taking control Thursday, July 9, rolling to a 9-1 victory over Carroll in five innings in a Class 4A Region 6 quarterfinal at Gary Creasman Field.
Boone scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to build a comfortable lead.
The Toreadors added three runs in the fourth before ending the game via the mercy rule with two runs in the fifth.
Carroll scored 1 run in the top of the second inning.
Harper Kuehl led the way with two hits, including a double, while scoring a run, driving in another and stealing a base.
Hailee Bingham also collected two hits, scored once and added an RBI.
Kaylee Kuehl finished with a hit, a run scored and an RBI, while Tenley Williams helped her own cause with a double and an RBI.
Olivia Garver added a double, and Brooke Weisbrod contributed a hit and RBI.
Abigail Leu scored twice, while Claire Hardinger, Halle Bailey and Hadley Gustafson each crossed the plate once.
Tenley Williams struck out four batters in a complete game and limited Carroll to a single run as Boone secured the postseason victory.
The Toreadors improved to 15-15 on the season and advanced to the Saturday, July 11, regional semifinal, where they will travel to face Sergeant Bluff-Luton at 7 p.m.
Carroll finishes its season with a 4-27 record.
