Madrid volleyball sweeps West Central Valley

Madrid opened the 2026 volleyball season Tuesday, Aug. 25, defeating West Central Valley 3-0 in both teams' West Central Activities Conference opener at Madrid High School.

Madrid opened the 2026 volleyball season Tuesday, Aug. 25, defeating West Central Valley 3-0 in both teams’ West Central Activities Conference opener at Madrid High School. 

The Tigers earned straight-set victories by scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-18. 

Madrid was led by Jaela Hansen’s eight kills.  

Savannah Bradley added seven kills, while Iyla Fine contributed six.  

Setter Rylin Velky directed the attack with 19 assists and also chipped in four kills.  

Caia Byriel finished with four kills. 

Defensively, Hansen paced the net with three blocks, while Lillie Benton added two blocks.  

In the back row, Paige Richards led Madrid with 14 digs, and both Fine and Bradley recorded 11 digs. 

Madrid also finished the match at 93 percent serving.  

Velky and Byriel were each perfect at 11-for-11 on serves.  

The Tigers recorded six service aces, with Velky, Byriel and Bradley each collecting two. 

The Tigers begin the season with a 1-0 record, while West Central Valley dropped to 0-1. 

Madrid will travel to State Center to face West Marshall on Monday, Aug. 31.  

West Marshall enters with a 0-0 record.
