The Madrid boys’ cross country team opened its 2026 season Thursday, Aug. 27, with a seventh-place finish at the Southeast Valley Invitational at Gowrie Country Club.
The Tigers scored 170 points in a competitive 13-team field.
Madrid was led by sophomore Hudson White, who turned in a strong performance with a fifth-place overall finish in 18:15.71.
Freshman Jacob Brandhorst also cracked the top 10, finishing 10th overall in 18:44.23.
Senior Kris Petersen was Madrid’s third scorer, placing 36th in 20:20.81.
Sophomore Isaac Boes finished 58th in 21:27.89, while junior Aiden Titus rounded out the scoring lineup with a 74th-place finish in 22:20.08.
Additional runners contributing to Madrid’s effort included sophomore Cole Berberich, who finished in 22:22.65, senior Sean Udelhoven in 23:03.90, senior Johnsen Otto in 24:33.82, freshman Lyric Ortiz in 28:07.27, and sophomore James Richardson in 29:38.83.
The Tigers’ 170 points placed them seventh overall behind champion Fort Dodge (49 points), Greene County (97), Southeast Valley (103), Perry (123), Manson Northwest Webster (124), and Ford Dodge St. Edmond (152).
The individual title went to Preston Kent of Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, who crossed the finish line in 17:24.50.

Madrid will host a cross county meet Thursday, September 3, at Grants Woods Park.
