The Madrid volleyball team faced a pair of tough opponents Tuesday, September 8, at the Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center triangular, falling to host AC/GC in straight sets before dropping a four-set match to Ogden.
Match 1: AC/GC 3, Madrid 0
Madrid opened the evening against Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center, with the Chargers earning a 3-0 victory.
Senior Iyla Fine led the Tigers offensively with eight kills, while Jaela Hansen added three kills and Lillie Benton finished with two.
Rylin Velky directed the offense with eight assists.
At the net, Fine, Hansen and Benton each contributed a block.
Defensively, Savannah Bradley paced Madrid with 11 digs.
Velky, Paige Richards and Abby Williams added six digs apiece.
Hadley Mickle recorded three ace serves, while Velky and Williams each added two.
Fine chipped in one ace, and Bradley was perfect from the service line.
Match 2: Ogden 3, Madrid 1
Madrid came up short against Ogden, 3-1.
The Tigers’ offense was led again by Fine with 11 kills.
Hansen added eight kills and Bradley finished with seven.
Velky handed out 29 assists in a strong setting performance.
Hansen recorded four blocks. Benton added two blocks, while Velky, Bradley and Williams each contributed one.
Fine turned in a standout all-around effort with a team-high 21 digs to go with her 11 kills.
Bradley added 16 digs and Richards contributed 15 .
From the service line, Williams led Madrid with four aces.
Mickle added three aces, Richards recorded two and Fine contributed one.
Bradley was a perfect 17-for-17 serving.
Despite the losses, Madrid received balanced contributions throughout the lineup, particularly from Fine, who led the team in kills in both matches and paced the Tigers defensively against Ogden.
Madrid, now 2-3 overall travels to Ogden at 5 tonight for a quadrangular featuring Pleasantville, Collins-Maxwell and Ogden.
