Boone volleyball wins 2 at Woodward-Granger tourney

The Boone volleyball team put together a competitive showing at the Woodward-Granger Tournament on Saturday, September 12, posting a 2-2 record in matches with one additional result against Perry unavailable as of early Monday afternoon.

The Boone volleyball team put together a competitive showing at the Woodward-Granger Tournament on Saturday, September 12, posting a 2-2 record in matches with one additional result against Perry unavailable as of early Monday afternoon.  

The Toreadors showed strong serving throughout the day and picked up victories over Ogden and Colfax-Mingo. 

Match 1: Woodward-Granger 2, Boone 0 

Boone opened the tournament with a 2-0 loss to host Woodward-Granger.  

Halle Johnson paced the offense with 21 assists, while Claire Hardinger led the team with two kills.  

At the net, Kyra Darby and Jenna Murray each recorded two blocks.  

Defensively, Karsyn Smith and Hailee Bingham finished with three digs apiece.  

Kaylee Kuehl added an ace while going 3-for-3 from the service line, and the Toreadors served an impressive 94 percent as a team. 

Match 2: Boone 2, Ogden 1 

The Toreadors bounced back in their second match with a 2-1 victory over Ogden.  

Halle Johnson distributed 31 assists and Murray led the attack with six kills.  

Darby added two more blocks, while Smith anchored the defense with 13 digs.  

Bingham collected three ace serves, and Ava Landas added two.  

Halle Johnson and Smith were both perfect from the service line. 

Match 3: Boone 2, Colfax-Mingo 0 

Boone followed with a strong 2-0 sweep of Colfax-Mingo. 

 Halle Johnson recorded 19 assists, while Ava Johnson and Kuehl had three kills each.  

Ava Johnson and Kuehl also finished with two blocks apiece.  

Smith added another 11 digs.  

From the service line, the Toreadors were led by Kuehl’s four aces while serving 6-for-6.  

Hardinger contributed three aces and was 9-for-9 serving, while Halle Johnson added two aces on a perfect 4-for-4 effort.  

Boone finished the match serving 96 percent as a team. 

Match 4: West Central Valley 2, Boone 1 

In their fourth match of the day, Boone dropped a close 2-1 decision to West Central Valley.  

Hardinger led the attack with six kills, while Darby and Murray each recorded two blocks. 

Smith continued her strong defensive tournament with 14 digs and also added three aces while serving a perfect 5-for-5.  

Halle Johnson powered the service game with five aces, and Kuehl added an ace while going 8-for-8 serving.  

Taylor Engell also posted a perfect serving performance. 

Boone now stands at 3-7 overall and will return to Raccoon River Conference play on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when the Toreadors travel to Gilbert to face the Tigers. 

The match will be broadcast on KWBG FM 101.5 and AM 1590 and streamed at kwbglive.com, with Sports Director Ryan Wendt providing the play-by-play.
