Coaches Corner for September 22nd: Jenni Winter, Ogden Volleyball

Joining us on coach's corner KWBG and Toxamog and volleyball now Jenny Winter joins us as the Bulldogs get ready for Man, I can't believe I'm saying this out loud and Jenny I literally just said this before we started but postseason volleyball is going to be around the corner before we know it and they've got a Big triangular coming up tonight with van meter and West Central Valley and then a couple more trying there as we've got the pink Out tournament over and mattered. I mean, there's a lot of stuff still coming up Jenny But somehow some way we're finding our way to the end of this season. I Know it's it's crazy when you think back You know when it's when it's mid-August and it's just you know You're just trying to fit everything in and figure out rotations and lineups and teams and it's just super super chaotic and crazy and then you just the next thing you know, you're just you know, you're End of September or heading into the end of September beginning of October thinking. What is our what's our postseason run? I'm gonna look like it just flies by so quickly But yeah, we're having it. We're having a great time and and excited for our For to be able to be at home tonight. So well, you had an opportunity best of Boone County year number two and the Ogden Ends up being the the I guess we call it tournament champions or invitational champions or best of Boone County Jenny And I know it was a long night of volleyball But boy any any time you're able to bring a trophy home afterward feels pretty good after Yeah, I think our our varsity squad was pretty happy with being able to bring that trophy home That was a goal that we set early on in this early on in the year Our JB and JBR girls gave it a run as well and and just came up a little bit short. So You know, I just I love that night It's just a great way to showcase all of our girls in the county It's a great way for you know that all the families and parents to get together who know each other in the county As well and for whatever school is hosting it. It's a great gate night It's it's great for concessions and I just love that we're continuing that that that tournament Looking at some ideas for next year on how we can speed it up a little bit But as you and I were joking, we all know the girls don't go to bed any earlier than that anyway So it was really just an inconvenience for coaches and parents alike. So we managed well and I'll tell you what I Know that people are gonna laugh when I say this but the fact that all three teams finish one-on-one Shows me that we did have the best of Boone County. We had everybody get together Everybody took shots at each other and what did we end up doing? We had to go to a tiebreaker, which you know what is kind of fitting? I know I love it to it. It was great to have each team get get a win And I and I just think again like I said, we just you know You highlight just some of our athletes in the county and and it's fun for the girls too to compete against each other And it's a good goal for them all to set and they want it They want to be the best of Boone County and have pride in having that trophy at their school So I just love that night. I think it's a great night Well, it's funny too and you just mentioned this when we got started about you know in August when you're trying to come up with Rotations and just find out where kids fit I think what was fun is that I looked at your lineups and girls that had a chance to play Last Thursday Jenny, I got to tell you I can see why it's taking you a while to come up with what you want to do with Rotation you got a bunch of girls that are interchangeable parts that really you can fit in anywhere And they play just as well as each other that the first person that was in for them Yeah, it's really a blessing a blessing with this group In that you've got some girls who are you know able to come in You know like when Sid Creighton our middle went down You know to be able to look quickly to the bench and to say okay, Hallie you're in and you're playing middle And you know that's a girl who has historically been playing setter On JV and we had to use her when Ella was gone for a tournament To set varsity for us and so you know just to have a variety of players that have a variety of different skills To be able to come in and just help the team and it you know They're staying engaged on the sideline and making sure that when their moment is called They're ready to come in and go but the curses for the coaches is you know You got to try to figure out what is the best fit? How do we you know how do we vibe on the court the best so sometimes that just takes a little bit to get figured out But the girls have been very patient with me and just trying to figure out. What is our best lineup? So, you know, we'll go in tonight. We've got to make some changes again So we've had that conversation about you know here are some here Here's option a option B option C everybody be ready and I think that they've bought into that And and we'll just come ready to play tonight Well, I'll tell you what Jenny, you know, I love numbers and I always like to throw something at you and I know you probably already know this but You were 91 for 95 serving last week that last Thursday for best of Boone County 50 for 50 against mattered that has to be close to a school record doesn't it? You know, I don't know that's a it's a great question, right? I don't know from from a School record like I don't know that we track that. I mean obviously we track individual But I don't know where I would even find like what is the best record? We've had two games where we've served a hundred percent You know, and I think that that's that's kind of the the definition of this team We've had these really great moments where we've served a hundred percent We've had a great moment where we've passed really well We've had great moments where we've terminated the ball where we're admit what we're missing is just that final Game where everything comes together. We serve well. We pass well. We hit well and and that is the breakthrough game That I'm waiting for these girls to have and I just think we keep talking about it We keep hitting it in hitting it in practice like when we put all this together You're gonna really surprise yourself with what you actually look like but we just haven't quite had all all those pieces come together But from a record perspective, I mean you can't argue with you know, not missing a serve so You know, but again like I do think that some of that really starts back in August when they start talking about setting their goals and what are our team goals and and serving aggressive and at a high percentage has been a Goal for this for this group of girls for the last two years and they're really embarking on it and are embracing it and We're seeing that come to you know come to several games and serve in a hundred percent. It's phenomenal All right, so I'm talking about all the positives nitpick for me a little bit Jenny Give me give me a couple of things tonight You get two more matches so you get two more opportunities to improve yourself And and I know you've told me this a million times You know if we're not getting better on a night then then we didn't do a good job And we have to we have to get better at something every night. So give me a couple things Jenny. What do you want to see tonight? Yeah, I think the thing we talked about after best of them county is we had you know, you're not we had Against Boone for example, we had 26 kills, but we also had 26 hitting errors You're you know, you're not going to win games if you have a ton of hitting errors So we definitely need to clean that up, but again starts back with our passing So if we've got good passing we can get good sets and we can get good hits. So we spent a lot of time Looking at you know, just you know hitting form hitting location of the sets etc. So we want to see some improvement from a from a hitting errors perspective and then you know I think not necessarily improvement, but van meter runs a super super quick offense So we've got to have our defense set and ready to go tonight Otherwise there they'll really kind of pick that apart for on us. So we got to be ready Defensively from the start before they're even hitting the ball as always Jenny Thank you so much for some time. Best of luck coming up tonight.
