The Madrid football team kept its perfect season intact Friday, September 25, shutting out Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center 17-0 in a non-district matchup at AC/GC High School.
Madrid struck first with seven points in the opening quarter and carried that 7-0 advantage into halftime.
The Tigers added eight more points in the third quarter before tacking on a safety in the fourth to complete the 17-0 victory.
Madrid’s defense turned in an impressive effort against an AC/GC team that entered the night with a 4-0 record.
The Tigers forced turnovers and kept the Chargers off the scoreboard for all four quarters.
Jevyn Severson led Madrid defensively with 5.5 tackles, including one tackle for loss.
Max Fowler recorded 4.5 tackles, while Kinnick Grimm finished with four and Will Atkinson added three.
Cash Frey contributed 2.5 tackles.
Emerson Bridgewater made two tackles, while Corbin Furness recorded two tackles, including a tackle for loss and a sack.
Logan Bogardus recovered a fumble, and Kole Deppe picked off a pass.
Offensively, Madrid used a balanced rushing attack to control the game.
Severson carried 11 times for 66 yards, while Atkinson had 20 attempts for 65 yards and a touchdown.
Chase Perkins rushed 12 times for 53 yards, Deppe added 41 yards on nine carries, and Grimm picked up 11 yards on four attempts.
Perkins completed two of his three passes for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Severson caught one pass for 19 yards and a touchdown, while Bridgewater had a seven-yard reception.
The Tigers finished with 236 rushing yards on 56 attempts and added 26 yards through the air for 262 yards of offense.
With the win, Madrid improves to 5-0 overall and remains 3-0 in district play, while AC/GC falls to 4-1.
Madrid now turns its attention to a big district matchup.
The Tigers will host Lynnville-Sully Friday, October 2.
Lynnville-Sully enters the game 4-1 overall and, like Madrid, is 3-0 in district play.
