Barbara Venema, 65, Boone, Iowa
BOONE, Iowa—Barbara Lynn Venema, age 65, of Boone, passed away Monday, September 21, 2026, surrounded by family at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in Des Moines. Following her wishes, cremation has taken place.
Barb was born May 8, 1961, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of John H. and Jeanette M. Venema. She graduated from Boone High School in 1979. Barb worked as a clerk at the Iowa State University Parks Library until her retirement.
Barb enjoyed travel, especially to Key West where she embraced the food, music, and island life style. Barb was proud of her Dutch heritage and enjoyed engaging in cultural and family traditions. Barb was generous and loved her family and friends. We will miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kim Naatz; and brother-in-law, Myron Thompson.
Barb is survived by her siblings, Debra Thompson, John (Amy) Veneman and Joanne Venema; eight nieces; one nephew; many great-nieces and great-nephews; aunt, Cheryl Flanders; several cousins and close friends that she considered family.
Services will be held at a later date.
