Muddy conditions made for a difficult night offensively as the Boone football team opened district play with a 28-0 loss to Adel-DeSoto-Minburn on Friday, September 25 at Goeppinger Field.
A sloppy field contributed to fumbles, interceptions and stalled drives throughout the game.
Boone had trouble establishing consistency on offense.
Several Toreador possessions appeared to be gaining momentum before a loss of two or three yards put the offense behind the chains.
ADM handled the difficult conditions better and struck for a touchdown pass in the first half.
The Tigers added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to build a 21-0 advantage at the half.
That score remained unchanged through the third quarter as Boone’s defense kept the Toreadors within striking distance.
ADM eventually added one final touchdown in the fourth quarter to complete the 28-0 victory.
Boone struggled to move the football through the air and on the ground.
Quarterback Ashten Petersen completed 9 of 15 passes for 32 yards, while Abel Tungesvik went 4-for-7 for 19 yards.
Ryder Hilsabeck led Boone’s rushing attack with four yards on two carries.
Maddox McIntyre was Boone’s leading receiver, catching two passes for 26 yards.
Patrick Houser finished with three receptions for 18 yards, while Braxton Gifford caught three passes for 11 yards.
Despite the loss, Boone’s defense created several turnovers.
Hilsabeck intercepted two ADM passes and also finished with 3.5 tackles.
Cooper Flaherty and Wrex Wilson each recovered a fumble, with Wilson also recording three tackles.
Anthony Heenan led the Toreador defense with 7.5 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Trent Eckard added seven tackles and half a tackle for loss, while George Grote recorded 6.5 tackles.
RJ Lennon finished with 5.5 tackles and one tackle for loss.
Fawkes Schroderer recorded 4.5 tackles, and Silas Junck contributed four tackles and half a tackle for loss.
The win improved ADM to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in district play.
Boone dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the district.
The Toreadors will look to bounce back when they travel to Council Bluffs Lewis Central Friday, October 2.
