with us on coaches corner KWB G going to talk to Tyler Lloyd Ogden football coach the Bulldogs had the season coming to an end to I-35 last Friday night 35 to 0 and coach you and I just kind of visited this but I think it's always good to get it out in the open and I'm sure I'm sure the players and parents know this but you do have an opportunity to play a ninth game but coach boy the numbers right now with injuries that would have been pretty darn difficult yeah it's just it's one of those things you know small Iowa high school football you're gonna have situations that arise and you know there's only so many kids that you know can't participate and be out and yeah we were we're low numbers are low and we've had just a myriad of injuries and it's not the same types of injuries either and so you know we've kind of been navigating that the last two weeks and yeah there just comes a point where you just can't you can't in your in your right mind you know put a team out there the number that we have and yeah and it is what it is and so you start making plans for next year because you and I both know it just this never stops so start those preparations and have those conversations and try to you know move things forward well and I think something else you look at too was I mean the last couple of weeks what was going to be challenging games anyway just because when you get toward the I know you're not going to use excuses I don't know if you've had a team though that's been this beat up since you took over as head coach to be honest you know it's kind of I don't know it was reminiscent of two years ago we had you know a 0-3 non-district record and then you know we were able to squeak into the playoffs that year but it's kind of the same thing except this one happened at the end of the season so now you're in district games or it hurts a little more obviously it you know it ends some things but it you know it is what it is and it's the reality of things and get back to the drawing board and you know try to make your your preparations as best you can I think you know you have 52 weeks in the year and the eight weeks are kind of you know what gets put under the microscope but it's kind of what you do with the other 44 and that's kind of the message we're trying to send right now Coach you had a lot of the younger classmen that played this year I know we'll talk about this when we do season wrap boy you had to be real proud of them the last couple of weeks the injuries kind of started to to get after your upperclassmen I know those sophomores and some of the groups underneath them they really had to step up didn't they yeah we had nine different sophomores start for us at some point you know during the season and those kids should be playing JV and you know kind of throw them to the fire out there a little bit and give them a taste of that but yeah it's it's tough and you know you look at those things you know your glass half full or glass half empty and for the most part responded pretty well but at the same time you know you're taking a risk when you're putting a you know 14, 15, 16 year old body out there with 18 year olds and it's really hard for the body to hold up sometimes and we weren't quite ready from that standpoint Tyler when you guys had your last conversation after I-35 what'd you tell the the group of kids you know I think one of the things we talked about was you know just the the simple fact that you know we've got a lot of work to do yet and our attendance numbers in the weight room and those kinds of things I would I would put those up against anybody but I think our kids are really compliant and they do what we ask them to do and really the challenge now is they need to be compelled and I told them you don't have to be obsessive fine if you are because I'm obsessive about it but you know just being compelled when you're in there have a sense of purpose what you're trying to accomplish you know set big goals and do those kinds of things I've never wanted to be a dream killer you know I want our kids to have high aspirations of things because you know nobody got anywhere successfully in life and said well I didn't work very hard at that and those are the life lessons that you try to teach Tyler last thing for me and I know we'll go over this a little bit in our season wrap but it'll be a new district cycle and that's always a little exciting and a little I don't know maybe it's more exciting than anything Tyler tell me what you're thinking could be sitting next season it's just one of those things that's unique to football in Iowa and yeah every two years it's kind of a reset and you know for a team like the one that we're in in our situation that's a good thing yeah it'll be interesting I don't know you hear a lot of different things about you know how the approach is going to go gosh I've been doing this as a head coach for 12 years now and we've had six different what's that going to look like you've got a lot of schools with declining enrollment at a more rapid pace than others and but what's that do for your eight man cutoffs and what's that do for class A and we're going to be right on the bubble between A and 1A and yeah it'll be really interesting to see that cycle and how that all turns out and you're right it is it really makes for an exciting time but I think this might be the end of the year but I don't make those decisions but we'll kind of see how those things fall because it's always a moving target that's for sure no doubt Tyler as always thank you so much for some time we'll do a season wrap here in a couple of weeks yeah appreciate it go dogs you bet Tyler Lloyd again joining us the Ogden football here on Coaches Corner
