Alert Neighbor Wakes Family After See House on Fire

KWBG 12/23/24

BOONE, Iowa—An alert neighbor, up early Monday morning, saw that a neighbors house was on fire, went to the house and pounded on the door which woke up the families dogs, eventually waking up the homeowner who quickly realized there was a fire.

The Boone Fire Department on duty crew quickly responded after receiving the call right before 5:40 a.m. Monday morning at 1015 Monona. The responding crew had flames and heavy smoke coming from the back of the house. They deployed two attack waterlines and quickly knocked down the flames which were pretty intense in the kitchen area of the home.

Firefighters then proceeded to search the first floor to make sure everyone was out and followed that with a search of the second floor. All occupants had evacuated including the dogs owned by the family.

Boone firefighters than began seeking hot spots because the fire had spread through the walls to the attic space. It took about four and half hours to complete that search and return to the station.

Boone County records show that the home is owned by Jeremy Quillen. The Boone Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Boone Police Department, the deputies from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, the Boone County Hospital and Boone County Emergency Management. The cause remains under investigation.

Boone Public works did announce that neighbors in the area will experience some discolored water because of the hydrant usage. Customers experiencing discolored water should run cold water fixtures or faucets to remedy the situation.
