Ames Police Charge Shooting Suspects

AMES, Iowa—On October 8, 2020 at 5:41 p.m., the Ames Police Department received a report of a male suffering from a gunshot wound at the Mary Greeley Medical Center emergency room. Officers arrived on scene and obtained information regarding the location of the shooting, which took place at Brookside Park at 1325 6th Street. Witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting also confirmed this information. The shooting victim was transported to a Des Moines hospital.

The victim has been identified as Devin M. Lagrone, age 20, of Marshalltown.

Follow-up investigation by the Ames Police Department has identified the suspects as Jonathan M. Thompson, age 19, of Ames and a 16-year-old male juvenile from Ames. Arrest warrants have been issued for the following offenses for both suspects.

• Attempted Murder, a class “B” felony
• Robbery 1st degree, a class “B” felony

The juvenile was arrested on October 14, 2020. He was transported to the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Eldora. Thompson has not been arrested and his whereabouts is unknown.
