BOONE, Iowa—Kyle Angstrom official took the oath of office and began serving at the At Large Council Member, filling the vacancy created with the resignation of Steven Ray at the end of December. Angstrom was selected by Boone voters in a Special Election on March 21st.
Angstrom was also the Council Member that made a motion to appoint an interested person to fill a vacancy created last week with the resignation of BJ McGinn as the 2nd Ward Council Member. McGinn had already indicated that he would not seek re-election and would be moving later in the year. However, construction of his new home was completed ahead of schedule pushing up his timeline.
In January, the majority of the council voted for the special election to fill the vacancy, with McGinn opposed. This time, the council voted to appoint an interested party to the seat, with Council Member Eli Stines supporting another special election. City staff will be posting the vacancy in the official publication next week, seeking letters of interest and resumes by noon on April 26th. The council will consider those interested at their first meeting in May and Could select someone to fill the seat until the next municipal election in November. Residents in the 2nd Ward could still petition for a special election.
