BOONE, Iowa—A formal ground breaking ceremony was held Thursday at 5th and Story Streets in Boone, the location for the reconstructed Downtown Boone Arch. Among those speaking were George Eckstein who collected a group of supporters interested in bringing the Arch back to downtown Boone. Originally constructed at 9th and Story Streets and dedicated in December 1915, carried the slogan “Try Boone, You’ll Stay”. That slogan will return with the new Arch. Site preparation will begin about October 14th and will have an impact on traffic at 5th and Story Streets.
