BOONE, Iowa—Barbara “Barb” Kay Warrick, 78, of Boone, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born April 16, 1947, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Donna Paris and later adopted by her father, C.P. Paris, Barb grew up in Frazier and graduated from Grand Community School in Boxholm in 1965.
At a Valentine’s Day dance in 1968, she met Robert “Bob” Warrick – they quickly fell in love and married. Through this union, Barb gained three children, and together they had four sons: Mark, Jeromy, Bruce, and Cody.
Barb had a beautiful heart and dedicated her life to caring for others. This was evident in both her personal and professional life. She first worked as a CNA at the Boone County Home. Once she and Bob had children, she opened an in-home daycare, allowing her to care for her sons as well as other little ones. Once the boys were older, she went to work with the Boone Police Department as a dispatcher for 19 years. She finished her working career in 2018, retiring from her job as the secretary at Sacred Heart School.
She found immense joy supporting her children and grandchildren. She took pleasure in attending their sporting events, hosting family holidays and special gatherings, quilting, and gardening. She especially loved decorating at Christmas. Her home was adorned with her quilting creations: hand quilted pillows, ornaments, wall hangings, and seasonal quilts throughout. The deep bonds she formed through quilting retreats with friends were among her fondest memories. Her quilts – gifts for her sons and daughters-in-law at their weddings, for grandchildren at their graduations, and for great-grandchildren at their births – were treasured tokens of her love.
In addition to quilting and gardening, Barb was an incredible cook. Her legendary “garbage salad,” spam chili and cheese melts, and macaroni and cheese were family favorites. Each Halloween, her homemade popcorn balls became a beloved tradition for family, friends, and neighborhood kids. Her simple cooking wisdom, “just add more butter and double the seasonings!” is one of the many ways her spirit will live on in family kitchens.
Barb’s legacy is one of selflessness and compassion. She was a loving and hardworking wife, mother, and friend who lived a life of service, touching countless lives with kindness and grace.
She was preceded in death by her father, C.P. Paris; her grandmother, Alice Johnson; and son, Doug Warrick.
Barb is survived by her loving husband, Robert Warrick; children, Mark Warrick of Boone, Jeromy (Suzanne) Warrick of West Des Moines, Bruce (Jeanna) Warrick of Boone, Cody (Jenny) Warrick of Boone, Tom (Rose) Warrick of Boone and Robin Warrick of Ohio; grandchildren, Brett (Stephanie) Warrick, Brooke (Jeff) Weitzenkamp, Robbert (Kelsey) Fowler, Corey (Emily) Fowler, Bailey (JT) Goodson, Tessah Warrick, Madisyn Warrick, Claire Meyers, Leah Meyers, Jackson Warrick, Brody Warrick, Grace Warrick, Matt (Tiffany) Warrick, Megan (Jay) Schuttler, Brittany (Kris) Flori, Chad Warrick, Bret (Hannah) Warrick and Makayla Warrick and many great-grandchildren.
