Betty J. Carper

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa—Betty J. Carper, age 96 of Edgewater, West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away May 11th, 2023. She was born December 23, 1926, to Chas and Bessie Recher of Thurmont, Maryland but immigrated to Iowa with her parents at an early age.

She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and homemaker, yet found time to further her secretarial interests in the business world as a legal secretary for thirty-seven of those years. Camping and traveling with the family were also high on her list of priorities.

Five children blessed her marriage to Robert G. Carper Jr. (now deceased), namely: Robert G. Carper III, Lynne M. Jordan (Dallas Patterson), Margie A. Townsend (Bill Townsend), Randy L. Carper (Theresa Carper) , and Rick A. Carper (Marife Carper) together with eleven grandchildren: Tony Rose, Ryan Doyle, Tyler Rose, Amanda Runyan (Rose), Natalie Gentry, Erin Carper, Lucas Carper, Danny Carper, Jessie Davis, Haley Carper, and Ethan Carper; fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

A private memorial service and inurnment will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa, where she will join her late husband of sixty-seven years, Robert G. Carper Jr.
