STRATFORD, Iowa—Funeral arrangements have been set for Beverly C. Hanson, 93, of Ames, Iowa. She passed away at her home in Ames on Saturday, December 25, 2021. She had been a resident at Bickford Assisted Living in Ames since November of 2020.
Beverly was born on October 7, 1928 in Fostoria, Iowa the daughter of Earl and Elsie (Schueneman) Pothast. On March 8, 1952 she married Derald Hanson at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. Beverly was a graduate of Everly High School in Everly, Iowa, and the Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing. She was a longtime Nurse at the Hamilton County and Boone County Hospitals. She was also a school nurse for the Stratford School District. Beverly was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Stratford Lutheran Church Women, and the Stratford Domino Ladies.
She was preceded in death by her husband Derald Hanson, brother Norman Pothast, sister-in-law Betty Pothast, and her parents Earl and Elsie Pothast.
Beverly is survived by her daughters: Susan (Tom) Leabhart of Davenport, IA; Barbara (Jeff) Israel of Orlando, FL, and Kathy (Howard) Massing of New Virginia, IA; grandchildren: Craig Leabhart and Nate Farmer of Des Moines, IA; Kara and Tyler Grace of Des Moines, IA; Rachel Israel of Orlando, FL; Deborah Israel of Orlando, FL, and Jon and Martha Massing of Texas; great-grandchildren: Jude Grace and Liam Grace, and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will take place at a later date at the Stratford Lutheran Church in Stratford, Iowa. Burial will be at Vegors Cemetery in Webster County, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Stratford Lutheran Church or to Planned Parenthood of the Heartland.
