The Boone baseball team took a step forward in the Class 3A Substate 3 bracket Friday July 11, defeating Hampton-Dumont-CAL, 5-1, at North Polk High School in Alleman.
After falling behind early with a run allowed in the top of the second, the Toreadors responded in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to seize control of the game.
They added an insurance run in the sixth to seal the victory.
Noah Davies led the offensive charge with two doubles and three RBIs.
Landon Youngblood crossed the plate twice and added a hit, while Tate Carlson, Cole Bowers, and Tyler Lindahl each chipped in with a hit apiece.
Reid Carr contributed an RBI at the plate and was dominant on the mound, striking out eight batters in a complete game performance.
Boone improved to 21-9 on the season, while Hampton-Dumont-CAL closed their year at 7-21.
With the win, Boone advances to the second round and will host Waverly-Shell Rock (14-14) tonight at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park.
The Toreadors will look to keep their postseason run alive in front of a home crowd.
