The Boone baseball team continued its postseason march Monday, July 14, with a dominant 8-0 shutout over Waverly-Shell Rock in front of a home crowd at Memorial Park, in the second round of Class 3A Substate 3 play.
Boone wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in five of six offensive innings, including two runs in each of the first, third, and fifth innings.
Noah Davies led the charge at the plate with two doubles and two RBIs, while Landon Youngblood and Reid Carr each added two hits, a run scored, and an RBI.
Dylan England, Drew Hayworth, Tyler Lindahl, and Ryan Bowers all crossed the plate.
On the mound, Walker Smith was in command, striking out six over six shutout innings to earn the win.
Lindahl closed the door with a clean seventh inning in relief.
Boone improves to 22-9 on the season, while Waverly-Shell Rock ends its year at 14-15.
Boone will host Humboldt (27-6) in the Class 3A Substate championship at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16 at Memorial Park.
A win would send the Toreadors to the state tournament.
