Boone baseball ends season at state

The Boone baseball team fell to Dubuque Wahlert Catholic, 3-1, in a Class 3A state championship quarterfinal game Monday, July 21, at Lewis & Clark Park in Sioux City.

The Boone baseball team fell to Dubuque Wahlert Catholic, 3-1, in a Class 3A state championship quarterfinal game Monday, July 21, at Lewis & Clark Park in Sioux City. 

The game’s turning point came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Wahlert scored three runs to take the lead.  

Boone answered in the top of the fifth, with Dylan England crossing home plate on an RBI single from Lucas Moore, cutting the deficit to 3-1. 

Moore led the offense with two hits for the afternoon.  

England added a hit and a run, while Noah Davies chipped in with a single. 

On the mound, Reid Carr delivered a complete-game performance, striking out three and keeping Boone within striking distance. 

The Toreadors finished with a 23-10 record while Wahlert improved to 37-6. 

Wahlert will play No. 5 seed Saydel (29-7) at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 23. 

For the Toreador offense, Moore capped off his season with 40 hits and 27 RBIs, and England matched Moore with 40 hits and led the team with 32 RBIs.  

Additionally, Davies had 27 hits and 22 RBIs, Cole Bowers ended with 28 hits and 29 RBIs and Tate Carlson recorded 34 hits and 26 RBIs 

Carr led the pitching staff with 7 wins, a 2.49 ERA and 30 strikeouts while Walker Smith, had 5 wins and a 2.26 ERA and 35 strikeouts. 

Landon Youngblood recorded 5 wins, a 2.36 ERA and 23 strikeouts, and Tyler Lindahl added five wins of his own with a 3.56 ERA and 14 strikeouts. 

As the 2024–25 high school sports year comes to a close, attention now turns to the 2025-26 season this fall. 

Girls’ tennis moves from the spring to the fall with practice beginning Monday, August 4, and meets beginning Tuesday, August 12. 

Football, volleyball, cross country and swimming practice begins Monday, August 11. 

High school football games begin Friday, August 29, with the first high school volleyball games also set for late August. 

The first Boone girls’ swimming meet is Tuesday, September 2, with the first cross country meets also set for late August and early September.
