The Boone baseball team closed out Raccoon River Conference play on a high note Monday, July 7, defeating Winterset 6–3 on the road.
Boone struck early with a run in the top of the first, then broke the game open with a 3-run fourth inning and added two more in the sixth.
Winterset responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and one in the third, but Boone’s bullpen held firm the rest of the way.
Dylan England led the Toreador offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.
Luke Moore added a hit, a run, and an RBI, while Noah Davies, Tate Carlson, and Landon Youngblood each contributed offensively.
On the mound, Youngblood earned the win in relief, striking out 3.
Reid Carr added 2 strikeouts in a solid outing.
With the win, Boone improves to 19–9 overall and finishes 9–6 in conference play.
Winterset falls to12-16 overall and 5–10 in the conference.
Boone will host Nevada (12–11 overall) in their final regular season game on Wednesday, July 9 at 7 p.m. at Memorial Park.
It will be the Toreadors’ last tune-up before postseason play begins.
