
The Boone baseball team swept Carroll in a Raccoon River Conference doubleheader, 7-4 and 9-4, Monday, June 22, at Memorial Park.
Game 1: Boone 7, Carroll 4
Boone rallied behind a big fifth inning to win the opener.
After trailing early, the Toreadors scored one run in the bottom of the third before scoring four runs in the fifth to take the lead.
They added two more insurance runs in the sixth.
Carroll struck first with two runs in the second inning and added single runs in the fourth and sixth but couldn’t keep pace with Boone.
Noah Gorman led the way, collecting two hits — including two doubles — while driving in five runs and scoring once.
Levi Behn contributed with two runs scored and an RBI, while Landon Youngblood added a hit and an RBI.
Boone also got hits from Patrick Houser and Noah Davies, who also scored a run.
RJ Lennon and Cole Chrisenseon each crossed the plate as well.
Conor Scoggins turned in a complete-game effort, striking out five to earn the win.
Game 2: Boone 9, Carroll 4
The Toreadors carried that momentum into game two.
Boone scored in four straight innings, beginning with two runs in the second, followed by a three-run third, and two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.
Carroll answered with two runs in both the third and fifth innings but couldn’t close the gap.
Behn delivered four hits, four RBIs, two doubles, and a stolen base.
He also earned the win, striking out four as the starting pitcher.
Lennon tallied two hits and scored twice, while Braxton Gifford added two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored.
Gifford also contributed in relief, striking out two batters.
Gorman had two hits and two runs scored, while Youngblood chipped in a hit, a run, and an RBI.
Henry Wright and Christeson each added runs scored.
The Toreadors improved to 11-7 overall and 4-5 in conference play, while Carroll dropped to 5-14 overall and 0-9 in league action.
The Toreadors are set to host North Polk (14-7 overall, 6-3 conference) on Wednesday, June 24, at Memorial Park.
