Under the lights at Goeppinger Field, Boone football kicked off its 2025 season against Greene County, ultimately falling 36-20 Friday, August 29.
Greene County jumped out to an early lead, capitalizing on two Boone fumbles in the first half.
Both turnovers were converted into touchdown passes, giving the Rams a 14-0 advantage.
Boone responded later in the second quarter when quarterback Jude Baumgardner connected with Tate Hollenkamp on a 58-yard strike, narrowing the gap to 14-7 at halftime.
The second half began as Greene County returned the opening kickoff deep into Boone territory.
They quickly punched it in with a 2-yard touchdown run to extend their lead to 21-7.
Later in the third quarter, the Rams added another score on a 1-yard run, making it 29-7.
Boone showed resilience in the fourth quarter.
Baumgardner found Noah Davies for a 41-yard touchdown pass to bring the score to 29-14.
However, Greene County answered with a 65-yard touchdown pass to put the game out of reach.
Baumgardner capped off the night with a 1-yard rushing touchdown with just 38.4 seconds remaining, finalizing the score at 36-20.
Baumgardner completed 17 of 27 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 19 yards and a score.
Maddox McIntyre led the ground game with 110 yards on 23 carries, and Dayne Brekke added 33 yards on 7 attempts.
Davies hauled in 7 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown.
Hollenkamp contributed 71 yards and a score on 3 receptions, while Bodie Brogden added 17 yards on 3 catches.
Defensively, Javier Casiano led the charge with 5 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss.
Romero Young also had 5 tackles and snagged an interception, and Brogden chipped in with 3 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Boone (0-1) will look to bounce back on Friday, September 5, when they travel to face Perry (0-1).
Greene County (1-0) will host Woodward-Granger (1-0).
